Raymond R. Gates
Ray Gates has defended insureds and self-insureds in a broad variety of personal injury and wrongful death cases, ranging from minor to catastrophic injury claims. He has extensive trial experience defending dentists, nurses, physicians and hospitals, rental car companies, and insurers in bad faith litigation.
Ray’s California and Nevada practice also focuses on premises liability, boating liability, product liability and ski defense, as well as medical, hospital and pharmaceutical malpractice, and representation of casino clients. In Nevada, Ray has defended the interests of doctors, dentists, nurses, clinics, hospitals, Raley’s, St. Paul’s, Rite Aid, Harrah’s, Heavenly Ski Resort, Mt. Rose Ski Resort, USAA, CNA, Encompass, Zurich U.S., Alamo, National and Enterprise car rental companies. He has handled several high profile matters in the Reno/Tahoe region. He has litigated and argued cases in California and Florida Appellate Courts as well as the Nevada Supreme Court. He also handles dental, medical and nursing board matters.
Ray has practiced law since graduating from Notre Dame Law School in 1989 where he was a member of the National Moot Court Team, receiving awards for oral and legal writing excellence. Prior to attending law school, Ray served as a Deputy U.S. Marshal in New York from 1982 to 1986, performing dignitary and witness protection. He was also a member of the Attorney General’s Special Operations Group. Ray is a 1982 graduate of the University of Central Florida, where he was a member of the Order of Omega. He currently conducts training seminars for nurses, doctors and dentists. He also serves as a Judge Pro Tem in Sacramento and El Dorado Counties.
